Endoscopic gastric plication is a weight loss method, in which the capacity of the stomach is reduced by means of an endoscopy. It is achieved by performing internal sutures of the stomach reservoir (fundus and body), decreasing its capacity of distension, limiting food intake, and achieving a prolonged satiety. Everything is done without incisions or surgery.
In OBESITY EL SALVADOR we use the Apollo method, providing all the clinical, nutritional, and psychological support at no additional cost. The Apollo method consists of applying surgical non-absorbable sutures internally, which are totally resistant to stomach acid. The procedure has an extended durability, keeping the stomach reduced for 18 months or more. This procedure should be used in patients who are willing to completely change their eating habits and their lifestyle.
AN INNOVATIVE ENDOSCOPIC PROCEDURE
By means of a gastric endoscopy and under general anesthesia, we use the Apollo method, which consists of a system of continuous stitches applied to the entire greater curvature of the body and stomach fundus, thus reducing the stomach’s capacity by up to 80%. The procedure lasts approximately 60 minutes.
ENDOSCOPIC PLICATION PERFORMANCE
By plicating the stomach, the gastric capacity is smaller, therefore, the patient feels the sensation of early and prolonged satiety with a much smaller amount of food than usually ingested.
INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM IN THE CARE OF THE PATIENT DURING AND AFTER DE PROCEDURE
In the context of endoscopic gastric plication, the patient is attended by an interdisciplinary team composed of an endoscopic surgeon, a nutritionist, and a psychologist.
This team plays an important role in weight loss and stabilization of the patient. The causes of obesity are multiple, and the patient must be treated as a whole.
WEIGHT LOSS
When the endoscopic gastric plication procedure is performed, an average of 45-70% of excess weight can be lost, and in patients who perform physical exercise, this can reach up to 90%.
Life after an Endoscopic Gastric Plication is completely normal. The patient practically re-learns how to eat, as the procedure becomes an educator that will help them achieve the desired goals. The biggest difference will be that with a small amount of food the patient will feel satisfied.
This procedure is a good option for patients willing to change their lifestyle and achieve a long-term improvement in their health.
RESTRICTIVE AND TEMPORARY PROCESSING FOR WIGHT LOSS
Endoscopic gastric plication is a restrictive, temporary procedure with a duration of 18 months or more. The method stops working as the patient gradually tries to eat more. Slowly and inadvertently, the gastric capacity increases, until it is no longer effective. The more disciplined the patient is, by following the diet previously established in the nutritional evaluation, the longer the treatment will last. The greater the awareness, the greater the durability.
