MORBID OBESITY

Morbid obesity is a disease and must be treated seriously, as it entails many health problems.

First of all, obesity must be prevented and treated by adopting a healthy lifestyle and an appropriate diet. In many cases, the dangerous condition cannot be permanently solved with these measures alone. For morbid obesity, the current most effective option for long term results is surgical treatment.

The incidence of failure with diet, medication and exercise is over 95%. Surgery is a remedy for those who have failed to lose weight by usual means.

People who have a body mass index above 40 are considered morbidly obese. According to The National Institute of Health of the United States, the treatment of choice for people with morbid obesity is surgery.

Surgery for obesity is indicated in patients with a BMI greater than 40, or in people who have a BMI greater than 35 and also suffer from obesity-related diseases like: high blood fats, diabetes, arterial hypertension, etc. On some occasions, surgery is indicated in people with a BMI lower than 35.

Many morbidly obese people have tried more than one method to lose weight, but the results were not as expected, and in many cases these people are unable to obtain long-term sustained results. In these patients, bariatric surgery, or obesity surgery, has proven to be the best method of treatment.

In OBESITY EL SALVADOR we analyze each patient’s case individually. If you wish to find out if you are a candidate for bariatric surgery, please contact us.
